The Valognes Twinning Association last weekend visited France for the second gathering of the year with their French counterparts. Following the French visit to Wimborne Minster earlier in the year, a reciprocal visit was planned to further mark the very special year, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the twinning.
The renewed ‘Jardin de Wimborne’ was officially opened by both the Mayor of Valognes and the Mayor of Wimborne Minster and a formal reception in the Valognes town hall followed where Town Mayor Cllr Mrs Kelly Webb made a short speech in French. She said ‘It was my first visit to Valognes, their association were fantastic hosts and really spoilt us. I would like to thank the Wimborne Minster twinning association for inviting me along, I enjoyed every minute of it (although it was a little nerve wracking attempting the speech)’.
Gifts were exchanged between the two Councils and associations to mark the visit. The group totalled over 80 people for the weekend with various trips and meals planned, each family being ‘hosted’ by a French equivalent.
Cllr Webb went on to say ‘I would really encourage more people to get involved in the twinning association, it’s such a positive thing to encourage for future generations, I’m certainly going to become a permanent member’!
