Dorset Council – Leigh Road Walking & Cycling Improvements

We shall soon start construction of the Leigh Road / Wimborne Road West cycle path and walking
improvements in the vicinity of your property.

This is the first scheme of BCP and Dorset Council’s multi-million pound Transforming Travel programme
which is funded largely by the UK Government’s Transforming Cities Fund. The series of walking and
cycling improvements along Leigh Road and Wimborne Road West will enable more sustainable journeys
and expand the travel choices available to people living and working in the area.

Construction of the scheme will be carried out by Hanson Contracting on behalf of Dorset Council with
staff from this office supervising the work. Hanson are members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme,
the construction industry’s national scheme set up to raise standards of construction.

To reduce the impact of the scheme, construction of the project has been broken down into sections upto 400m long.

We hope to start construction of this section on 18 March 2021 with completion of this section by the end
of April 2021. The full project is due to complete towards the end of 2021.

Please be aware that there will be temporary traffic light traffic management while these works are taking
place. There will also be limited overnight road closures while we lay new surfacing on the carriageway.

With this sort of work, some inconvenience may be caused. However, we will ensure that it is kept to a
minimum. If you feel the work is likely to cause any particular problems, which could be helped by special
arrangements (e.g. for anyone with a mobility problem or for special deliveries you might be expecting),
please email the project team at transformingtravel@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk or call us on 01305 221025.
