Christmas Lighting Scheme

Christmas Lighting Scheme

We are aware that the location and extent of the Christmas lights for 2020 has caused concern among retailers who have premises on roads and pedestrian areas not included in the scheme. We are genuinely sorry that we could not extend the scheme universally.

This year Wimborne Minster Town Council has undertaken to cover the total cost of the Christmas lights which have had to be replaced. The Council has entered in to a 3 year contract as it is the most viable option. This means the Council will have to meet the entire costs for 3 years if the BID is not re-elected.

We have advised the BID that the scheme can be added to if they are re-elected and can provide funding.

The Council has already transferred money from other parts of the budget as the cost of the 2020 scheme (circa £25,000) exceeds the usual budget for lights by about 50 %.

As a Council we are extremely aware that the usual Christmas events will not take place and the Councillors wanted to ensure we had lights in town. One of the aims was to provide a fluid linked display. Council officers and Councillors have committed a great deal of time to the 2020 scheme and we wish to assure everyone this is an issue which has been fully considered.

The scheme for Mill lane has been adapted from the original plan to comply with lighting regulations.
