Town Square Enhancements

In early January 2012 work will commence on the long awaited Wimborne Square Enhancement Scheme. Work will be completed in 9 phases of differing duration and complexity and be finished by the end of May 2012.

The enhancement of The Square will increase its attractiveness for shoppers, residents and visitors. To achieve this, a pedestrianised area will be created on the sunny northern side of the square, the width of footways will be increased and safer pedestrian crossing points created. High quality street furniture will also be provided.

The scheme was initiated and is being financed by East Dorset District Council, with support from Waitrose, Dorset County Council and Wimborne Minster Town Council.

The comprehensive makeover of The Square will improve the appearance and atmosphere of the town centre and make it more welcoming. It will create a new attractive pedestrian space for people to meet, sit and relax and be used as a public entertainment and events area.

The scheme will retain the existing plane tree and the annual Christmas tree, and introduce new seasonal floral displays and provide space for al fresco dining.

The scheme involves moving bus stops, loading bays and taxi ranks and changing existing traffic flow.
