- 6612 - WIMBORNE MINSTER TOWN COUNCIL MINUTES of a meeting of the RECREATION & LEISURE COMMITTEE held on TUESDAY 29 MAY 2012 at 6.30 pm in the Committee Room, Town Hall, Wimborne Minster. Cllr Mrs March in the chair. 18 ELECTION OF VICE-CHAIRMAN 2012/2013 RESOLVED that Cllr L G Harvey be elected Vice-Chairman of Committee for the 2012/2013 municipal year. 19 RECREATION GROUNDS INSPECTION REPORT The Town Clerk submitted a report, a copy of which was circulated to each Member at the meeting and a copy of which appears as Appendix A to these Minutes. Regarding the complaint about the petanque pitch, the Town Clerk was asked to ensure that, in future years, it was cleared and prepared before the spring visit by representatives from Valognes. 20 REDCOTTS RECREATION GROUND - SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ELECTRICITY - EASEMENT (Min 253 - 28.02.12) The Town Clerk reported that Scottish and Southern Electricity had been unable to programme the work to lay the cable before the start of the grass tennis court season and would now be commencing work at the end of September 2012. - 6613 - Recreation & Leisure Committee - 29 May 2012 All the legal documentation had been completed and the consideration agreed by the District Valuer had been paid into the Council's bank account. 21 REDCOTTS RECREATION GROUND - PLAY AREA The Town Clerk submitted an email dated 5 March 2012 from Cllr Spencer, a copy of which had been circulated to each Member and a copy of which appears as Appendix B to these Minutes in the Minute Book. Cllr Spencer had asked whether anything could be done to improve the play area before consideration of the issue at budget time. He asked whether there was any opportunity for obtaining external sources of funding. The Town Clerk replied that he had carried out research in the past and there was no funding available to Town Councils. He agreed, however, to investigate this possibility again. The Town Clerk added that he would arrange for the play equipment to be re-painted this year. RESOLVED that Cllr Spencer reply to the enquiry from Mr Smith advising him of the above and, in the meantime, directing him to the toddlers' play equipment next to the Leigh Park Community Centre. 22 REDCOTTS RECREATION GROUND - REQUEST TO PURCHASE LAND The Town Clerk submitted a letter dated 24 April 2012 from Mr D Lonsdale, a copy of which had been circulated to each Member and a copy of which appears as Appendix C to these Minutes in the Minute Book. Mr Lonsdale had enquired whether the Town Council would be prepared to sell to him an area of Redcotts Recreation Ground (which included the petanque pitch) adjoining his property. RESOLVED that Mr Lonsdale be advised that this land is not for sale. 23 LEIGH PARK PLAYING FIELD - TABLE TENNIS TABLE (Min 249 - 28.02.12) The Town Clerk reported that Wimborne Rugby Club had now agreed to the outdoor concrete table tennis table for Leigh Park being installed in the position preferred by the Town Council and agreed in February 2012. The installer had been informed and delivery was expected in the next few days. - 6614 - Recreation & Leisure Committee - 29 May 2012 24 BANDSTAND PROPOSAL The Town Clerk submitted email correspondence, a copy of which had been circulated to each Member and a copy of which appears as Appendix D to these Minutes in the Minute Book. The emails related to a suggestion from a local resident that a bandstand be provided by Waitrose in Willow Walk. The manager of Waitrose was not unsupportive of the proposal, but had no budget for it. The Town Council was in a similar position. RESOLVED that the resident be advised of Waitrose's interest, but informed that, although his suggestion has merit, the Town Council does not have any funds to support it at present particularly as it has other priorities. 25 DOG WARDEN PATROL REPORT The Town Clerk submitted for information the Dog Warden Patrol Report for April 2012, a copy of which had been circulated to each Member and a copy of which appears as Appendix E to these Minutes in the Minute Book.
