The Council's Committee Structure

The full Town Council meets approximately eight times a year on a six weekly cycle. The Council appoints four main committees. The committees have the power to make decisions on behalf of the Council on certain matters, otherwise, their recommendations have to be approved by the full Council before they are acted on. Sometimes urgent decisions are required and there is a mechanism for this if necessary. All Councillors receive all the papers for every committee meeting and have the right to attend and speak at them, although they are only allowed to vote if they are a member of the committee.

Policy & Review Committee comprises the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Council and the three other Committee Chairmen. The Committee is responsible for all staffing matters and policy issues. It also recommends the precept to the Council. It has meetings fixed quarterly, but meets and when necessary.

Planning & Environment Committee meets usually eight times a year. It deals with planning matters and a wide range of other issues affecting the general environment of the town, including highways, trees, transport and rivers.

Recreation & Leisure Committee is responsible primarily for managing Redcotts Recreation Ground and Leigh Park Playing Fields. It meets usually eight times a year.

Resources Committee is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Council’s buildings and office accommodation and for lettings and leases. It also manages and monitors the Council’s accounts and allocates grants to local organisations.
