On a scorching May bank holiday Sunday (6 May 2018), the Mayor of Wimborne Minster, Cllr Terry Wheeler, hosted his Civic Thanksgiving Service in the Minster. It was attended by a number of Civic Dignitaries including the Deputy Lieutenant of Dorset, Mrs Jennifer Coombs, and High Sheriff of Dorset, Mrs Jacqueline Swift DL. The service, led by Associate Priest, Reverend Suzie Allen, paid homage to the value of giving and the Mayor paid tribute to the voluntary sector and all those who contribute so much to the community spirit in the town of Wimborne Minster. The Mayor’s Guide, Lucy Harvey, and one of the town’s Honorary Freeman and past Mayor, Anthony Oliver MBE, gave readings from the bible which represented the essence of giving and self-sacrifice.
The Wimborne Militia, one of only two in the country, provided a booming display following the service before everyone enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of cake at Church House.
