Wimborne Minster Gives Thanks
On Sunday 17th April, Wimborne Minster Town Council hosted a number of dignitaries from around Dorset and neighbouring counties, including the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Dame Annette Brooke, Cllr Steve Lugg, Chairman of East Dorset District Council, Cllr Victor Fox, Chairman of North Dorset District Council, Cllr Peter Shorland, Chairman of West Dorset District Council and many Mayors and Chairmen from towns and parishes near and far. The group were first welcomed at the Allendale Centre before parading through town, safely guided by the Militia and escorted by the guides and scouts arriving at the Minster in time for the 3pm service.
The service was attended by many local people with the Reverend Canon Vanessa Herrick starting proceedings but was ably supported by other town clergy. After the service, the Militia put on a display for the dignitaries on the Minster Green before leading them back to the Allendale Centre for a wonderful afternoon tea.
Cllr Shane Bartlett said ‘I’ve had a wonderful Mayoral year and met many great friends from other towns along the way who I’ll certainly be staying in touch with. This was a great opportunity to invite them back to the town to participate in the thanksgiving service and I was once again very proud of the welcome we gave them. The Allendale Centre put on a wonderful buffet for all who attended the reception. What a super way to see out my year as Mayor’
Over tea, the group were able to see photos and a video created during last year’s Civic day, in which many of them featured! The video was kindly created by Wimborne Movie Makers.
